PALAS Annual Conference Held

The 22nd Scientific Conference of the Philippine Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences (PALAS) was held in collaboration with the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Research Center for the Natural Sciences on May 21, 2010 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Center, UST. PALAS celebrated this year’s conference theme: “PALAS at the forefront: Laboratory Animal Science for Better Research” with two plenary lectures, eight oral presentations and eight poster presentations.
Bureau of Animal Industry Director, Dr. Davinio P. Catbagan was keynote speaker. Dr Catbagan emphasized on several issues related to research - from the eradication of zoonotic diseases such as rabies, studies on Reston ebolavirus to the supply of laboratory animals and implementation of animal welfare regulations. He called on PALAS members to be stewards for reforms to sustain growth and development in their respective areas of concern in laboratory animal science.
PALAS is among the organizations affiliated to the PVMA. Incoming PALAS President is Dr. Andres C. Saguibo, Jr.
